Practises Writing their name

Three levels, one pack

Every page is marked with a level, in colour, in dots and in words, so a parent can find the right page in a second.

  • Little ExplorersAges 3–5

Look, point, colour and say. A grown-up reads the instructions aloud and the child answers with pictures and single words.

    Page 3Page 4
  • Growing LearnersAges 6–8

Read, search and write. Children read the instructions themselves and answer in words and whole sentences.

    Page 5Page 6Page 7
  • Confident CreatorsAges 9–11

Read a story, solve a code and explain an answer. Children write in their own words and say why.

    Page 8Page 9
  • All levelsEvery age

Open-ended pages that stretch to fit: the same activity works for a three-year-old and an eleven-year-old.

The ages are suggestions, not rules. A confident six-year-old can try the puzzles; a nervous nine-year-old can start with the picture pages. Let your child choose.

A closer look at four activities

One from each level. Nothing here is a placeholder: these are cut straight from the pages.

Little Explorers

Colour and count

Colour the festival, then count the diyas, flowers and stars and say the answer aloud. Big outlines for small hands.

Growing Learners

Diwali word detective

Eight Diwali words hide across and down in a ten-by-ten puzzle. The grid is checked, so every word is in it exactly once.

Confident Creators

Crack the festival word code

Eight clues, each with a jumbled code to unscramble. Cover the code for a harder challenge.

Design your own rangoli

A large blank circle to design, colour, name and describe. The same page works for a three-year-old and an eleven-year-old.

How to Use the Diwali English Adventure

Please do not ask a child to finish the whole pack in one sitting. Four short sessions of 10 to 15 minutes each work better, and you can adapt the length to your child’s attention.

  1. Session 1Pages 1–4Cover, Diwali words, picture match, colour and count
  2. Session 2Pages 5–7Word detective, sentences, picture sequence
  3. Session 3Pages 8–9The missing diya story and the word code
  4. Session 4Pages 10–12Rangoli design, conversation quest, achievement page

While your child works

  1. Let your child try the activity on their own first.
  2. Read unfamiliar words aloud together.
  3. Ask your child to explain their answers.
  4. Celebrate attempts, not just correct answers.
  5. Revisit three new words the following day.

By age

  • Ages 3–5. Read the instructions aloud, point at pictures and encourage repetition.
  • Ages 6–8. Encourage independent reading and building sentences.
  • Ages 9–11. Ask follow-up questions and encourage original writing.

Please avoid pressure.Avoid pressure, over-correcting and scoring against other children. A page left half done is still a page tried. A note on safety.Grown-ups, not children, light real diyas and candles and handle fireworks. No picture in this pack shows a child holding, lighting or standing close to a flame.

Questions parents ask

Is the Diwali worksheet pack really free?

Yes. It is free to download, print and use at home or in a classroom. There is no signup, no email address to give and no watermark.

What ages is it for?

It is written for children aged 3 to 11, in three suggested levels: Little Explorers (3–5), Growing Learners (6–8) and Confident Creators (9–11). The levels are a guide rather than a rule, and the open-ended pages suit every age.

Does my child have to complete it in one go?

No, and it works better if they do not. The pack is planned as four short sessions of 10 to 15 minutes, and the answer key sets out which pages go in which session.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. A separate answer key for parents and teachers has every answer, the word search solution with exact positions, example answers for the open-ended pages and a short guide to using the pack.

Do I need colour ink to print it?

No. Every page works in black and white, and the colouring pages are outline drawings. Colour printing makes the illustrated pages brighter but is not needed.

Can I share it with other parents or my class?

You may print it for your own child, your classroom or your tutoring group, and you are welcome to share the link to this page. Please do not sell it, host the file elsewhere or pass off an edited copy as your own. It is not released under a Creative Commons licence.

Is it safe around the festival?

Yes. Nothing in the pack asks a child to light a lamp, handle a flame or use fireworks, and no picture shows a child near a flame. The guide reminds parents that real lamps and fireworks are for grown-ups.

Does it teach Hindi?

No. This pack is for English. The festival words are ones many families use in English and at home, but the activities, instructions and answers are all in English.

Free to print and share. Please link to this page rather than to the PDF.
