About this video
Bhediya Aaya is the familiar tale of a boy who tells lies, and then cannot be believed when he tells the truth. This short Hindi video from Flucie tells it, and this page adds the story in English and Hindi, the key words, and questions to talk about with your child. The story below is the classic version.
Meet the characters
He looks after the sheep. He is bored, and he plays a trick on the village.
They run to help each time they hear him shout.
Not real at first. Then, one day, the wolf really does come.
The story in English
A boy looks after the sheep on a hill near his village. The days are long and he is bored.
One day he shouts, “Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is here!” The villagers drop their work and run up the hill. There is no wolf, and the boy laughs at them.
He plays the trick again, and again the villagers run to help. Again there is no wolf, and they go home unhappy.
Then one day a wolf really does come. The boy shouts, “Wolf! Wolf!” as loudly as he can. But this time nobody comes.
The villagers think it is another trick. Because he lied so many times, no one believes him when he tells the truth.
