When Flucie is not sure what it is looking at, it shows its top three guesses instead of pretending to know.
Works offline
The photo is matched to a label on the phone, the label is looked up in a built-in word list, and the word is spoken. None of these steps needs an internet connection.
Practise the same words without the app
Point & Learn is part of the Flucie app, which is in pre-launch. You can practise the same kind of vocabulary today with the free word lists in the Learning Hub, such as 100 easy English words, colours, numbers and shapes and animal names and sounds.
Questions parents ask
What objects can Point & Learn recognise?
Everyday things around the house and classroom: furniture, food, clothes, animals and common objects. If it is not confident about what it sees, it shows its top guesses rather than giving a wrong answer with false confidence.
Does it work without the internet?
Yes. Matching the photo to a word and speaking it out loud are all designed to happen on the phone, so Point & Learn keeps working with no signal.
Which languages does it support?
English, Hindi and Telugu, so a child can hear the word in the language spoken at home as well as in English.
Are the photos stored or uploaded anywhere?
No. Object recognition runs on the phone and photos are not uploaded or kept. More detail is on the privacy and data page.
